From Rubber Tree to Natural Rubber Sandals: How a Fipper Is Made

What makes a Fipper Slipper so special doesn't start in the factory, but on tropical rubber plantations, where it all begins with a small, careful incision in the bark of a rubber tree. From that cut flows a milky liquid: latex, the raw material for all our natural rubber sandals.

How is natural rubber made?

The tree isn't cut down in this process. In fact, the same tree keeps producing latex for many years, making it one of the most sustainable raw materials there is. After the latex is collected in small cups on the tree, it's filtered and processed to remove impurities. Through coagulation and drying, the liquid latex turns into solid rubber — ready to be shaped into the silhouette of a Fipper.

Why natural rubber sandals are more sustainable

The result is a sandal that's not only comfortable and slip-resistant, but also biodegradable. Where many other sandals are made from synthetic foam (EVA) or plastic, we deliberately choose natural rubber — even though it requires a longer and more precise production process.

Every pair starts at the source

The next time you put on your Fippers, you'll know: every pair started as a drop of latex from a tree, and ends as a sandal that's just as good for your feet as it is for the planet.
